Prerequisite Knowledge: Teachers must have attended Days 1 &2 and must have selected the primary account for creating their classroom website.
Content: During this phase of the workshop, teachers will dive deep into their classroom webpage. Teachers will create a complete classroom homepage and establish their main template for their classroom website.
Objectives:
1. Teachers will create a complete classroom homepage, considering and including the key components to a successful classroom website.
2. Teachers will create a template for the basic flow of their website, creating skeleton pages for each of their links to the homepage.
3. Teachers will begin to add details to the webpage, including titles, links, and images.
Instructional Method: The workshop will be taught with a mix of presentation, using active links, and independent work with assistance.
Materials: Technology provided, teachers must bring their classroom website outline.
Evaluation: Daily feedback will be in the form of a training exit slip.
Wednesday Agenda
8:00-9:00 Welcome back to Create a Classroom Website Workshop, Day 3. Today we are going to begin the "official" construction of our webpage using Yola. First, if you have not finished your classroom website layout form, please do so. This is a great time for questions.
9:00-11:00 Log onto Yola with your account created in Day 2.
Using your outline, begin experimenting with the layouts offered and select one that may complement your agenda and style for your classroom website.
1. Begin with the Homepage, create a Title (keep it simple, this is the main page that will be viewed by students, parents, administrators,and individuals from the community). This title will be placed in the heading box, it will be seen on all pages. This main page, often called a homepage, will be called index in the Yola site navigation bar.
2. Create the supplemental pages that will link from your home page. These may include a page for students, parents, and maybe an activities or resources page. Press the Pages button, select new page. Then title your pages.
12:00-2:00 Lets add details to your pages. Now we will work with creating titles and the structure to each page.
1. Starting at your index (or homepage) page, click on the Layout button. A screen will appear with many choices. These are intended to add structural design to your page. They can be used to separate images, information, or add flow to the page. Select one.
2. Once you have selected the layout, you may add the contents to each page. Watch this screencast as I walk you through this process.
3. Repeat this process for the basic outline of your webpages.
